Bring positive change to a child
Child sponsorship gives hope to children in Cambodia. As a sponsor you have a chance to help end poverty. You will be helping to ensure a child has access to clean food and water, basic healthcare and an education.
Your $50 a month provides the following:
Rice – Rice is distributed to the child for the family, otherwise the family would rather the child work to help support the family than attend school.
Meat and Vegetables – We also give the children nutritional food to take home for them and their family.
Clothes and supplies – We provide school supplies such as notebook, pencils, books, and school bags. We also buy clean clothes and shoes for the children every two months. Hygiene items are also included such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels and soap.
Administration – We also cover some of our administration costs (paypal charges us $2.25/month/transfer) Our aim is to keep this below 10%.

What is child sponsorship?
It is a way of giving through a monthly contribution with support focused on an individual child within a school, orphanage or community center.
Why choose PIO?
PIO is a not for profit organization run by Cambodians for Cambodians. We support the poorest children and their families. We understand the challenges faced by local people and are working with them to change lives for the better.
How many children does PIO support?
Around 600 children a day attend our schools and centres. Since 2002 we have worked with over 2000 children.
Can I choose wheather to sponsor a boy or girl?
Absolutely, you can specify a preference of your sponsored child. We are working in 3 different areas in Phnom Penh and can also suggest children that need help. The choice is up to you.
Can I visit my child?
Visits are possible and we welcome visitors to PIO. We do require advance notice of your arrival and visits are always conducted with the supervision of a PIO staff member.
How much does child sponsorship cost?
Sponsorship costs $50 a month. $41 of this goes directly to support the child and provides school uniform, books, food and items such as toothpaste and soap. On payments through Paypal we are charged 2.5% administration costs.
Donors are welcome to give more than this and the surplus will be used to benefit the child’s school/orphanage or local community. Or you may of course sponsor more than one child!
How long will sponsorship last?
There is no minimum or maximum time for child sponsorship to last.
Sponsorship usually continues until a child finishes school or training. You will then be given the opportunity to sponsor another child.
You can stop your sponsorship at any time if you need to.
What happens if I cannot continue as a sponsor?
If your circumstances change you can end your sponsorship. Please try and give us at least a months notice so we have time to organize another sponsor for your child.
Can I send letters and gifts to the child?
You are welcome to send letters and small gifts. We suggest gifts should be no more than A4 envelope size. We will include a list of ideas for small gifts that will be useful children – both girls and boys of different ages - in your welcome pack
We encourage the child to reply to letters – especially as they get older and are learning English. It may not be practical to reply to all letters but we will do our best.
Anyone can sponsor a child – either as an individual or a group. A school or youth club for example could sponsor a child.
